Klaserie Private Nature Reserve | Greater Kruger National Park

Mafunyane is a small intimate lodge that allows you to indulge in a rich and luxurious African safari experience. We are situated in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Here, over 200 different species of mammals including the Big 5 – elephant, lion, leopard, African buffalo, and rhinoceros – as well as 260 bird species, thrive in their natural habitat. Visitors get the opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in the wild with two-daily guided game drives which are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon or for those wanting to get a more hands-on experience can enjoy nature walks.

Between game drives, guests can relax on their private patio or by the pool while sipping on a refreshing drink and savoring the breathtaking view of the waterhole which is frequently visited by a wide range of animals. The African bush is calling so why not come answer it here at Mafunayne Private Lodge.

The story behind Mafunyane Private Game Lodge

Chris had his first experience in the Bush at the tender age of 10 years, when Clive Walker, a well-known conservationist at the time, took him through the Tuli Block in Botswana. As a teenager he went to the Hans Marenski Agricultural School in Tzaneen, spending most of his free time in the Ntsiri area where his parents had property. These formative years in the Bush left a deep impression on Chris.  Always seeking to return one day, his dream finally became a reality over 40 years later. In 2016, Chris reintroduced his wife, Maike, to the Bush in a way she had never previously experienced it. Together with Chris’ parents they acquired Fife Safari Camp in the Klaserie, which they then renamed ‘Mafunyane’, one of the Magnificent Seven elephants that once roamed the Kruger Park in the 1980’s.

Sustainability – we have gone green!

“Ecotourism is now defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education” (TIES, 2015). Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and guests.”
